Player and Member Tournament Etiquette

Many of our players say that much more attention is needed for proper etiquette and healthy sportsmanship, so we have established the following to raise the bar and set standards that will be recognized with other sports where common courtesy and etiquette is still prevalent.

We should be proud of this and in order to make the game as enjoyable as possible etiquette should be promoted to competitors old and new.

Much of this is common sense but here are some of the main rules and guidelines of etiquette and good sportsmanship.

Let's ALL Live Aloha!

We believe that EVERY player is an ambassador for Tournament Style Portuguese Horseshoes™

1-Behave appropriately. Please avoid using profanity during the tournament when children are in the area. We are Ladies and Gentleman.

2-There is absolutely No Smoking allowed during tournaments. A designated Smoking Area will be provided down wind from the event. No Consumption of Alcohol you can celebrate and commiserate after the tournament. The exception to this rule is when the tournament venue has facilities to legally permit the dispense of alcohol, i.e. bar, hotel, special event license. This will be established prior to the event so everyone will be aware of what is permitted during a tournament.

3-Dress appropriately and ensure that you know the dress code for each game or match in which you are participating.

4-Show respect for your opponent(s) by arriving early to the playing lane.

5-Introduce yourself and shake hands with your opponent(s) both before play commences and after the match is complete.

6-During the game do not move around when your opponent is about to pitch their washers.

7-Stand well back from the box, keep quiet and do not do anything that would distract your opponent. Wait until the pitch has been delivered before moving.

8-If you are at the same end as the player pitching you must stand behind staying out of the player's line of vision.

9-On sunny days you must also ensure that your shadow does not fall on the box or lane.

10-Spectators who are in the player's line of vision should also keep still and should not distract players while they are tossing.

11-During the game encourage your team mates, do not criticize them. Commend good shots and learn to accept that flukes are a part of the game. Sometimes they go for you, sometimes against.

12-After the Match you should once again shake hands with your opponent(s) and congratulate them appropriately.

Knowledge of the above will make you a respected competitor, keep things friendly and contribute towards the enjoyment of the game for everyone involved, both on and off the playing field
.
